The Lesson of the Olympics

Billions of people watch the Olympics every 4 years. The Olympics is unique, on Earth, as an activity that promotes the welfare of the human family as a whole.

In Scientology, L. Ron Hubbard described the basic motivation or impulse of life as a dynamic force. He coined the word "dynamic" to describe this, and in his research he found that this thrust toward survival actually subdivides into 8 urges or "dynamics", one of which is the urge to survive as mankind. This is called the 4th dynamic.

The Olympics is a 4th dynamic activity -- one of the few that all nations participate in.

We have plenty of activities which pit one nation or group against another. And although there is this competition in the Olympics as well, there is also a feeling of unity.
